The NIH-NIDDK is hosting a virtual workshop on the gut-kidney microbiome on May 28-29. The theme of this workshop is “The Gastrointestinal Microbiome-Kidney Connection: From basic research to translational science.”
Purpose and Goals:
The GI microbiome is a new and underexplored frontier in medicine. Harnessing its therapeutic potential could revolutionize the way we prevent and treat kidney diseases.
The primary goal of this workshop is to bring together a multi-disciplinary group of scientists to stimulate discussion on the translational value of the GI microbiota in kidney diseases. This workshop will address the overall impact of the GI microbiota on kidney diseases specifically focusing on their role as markers, mediators or amplifiers of kidney function or dysfunction.
