About Travel Awards
CAIRIBU Travel Awards are awarded to trainees to help offset costs associated with attending the CAIRIBU Annual Meeting, December 9-11 in Madison, WI. Award amounts vary based on distance traveled and range from $400–$1,100.
Applicants should not register for the meeting until travel award decisions have been announced on October 23rd. Individuals selected for a travel award will receive a discount code to waive their meeting registration fee.
Travel awards and first come, first serve and application will be closed once funds are exhausted.
Travel award funds are distributed by check approximately 6–8 weeks following the conclusion of the meeting.
New this year: Awardees will not submit receipts; awards will be flat amounts. Awardees who are not US citizens or permanent residents may be subject to federal tax withholding.
Funds will be prioritized for trainees not affiliated with currently-funded CAIRIBU U54 and P20 Centers. Trainees from these Centers should be supported by their Centers to participate in the CAIRIBU meeting.
Travel Award Requirements
To qualify for a travel award to attend the 2026 CAIRIBU Annual Meeting you must:
- Be a trainee or early-stage investigator (as defined by the NIH)
- Submit at least one abstract
- Attend your assigned poster session and present your poster
- Attend the meeting in its entirety from Wednesday, Dec. 9, 8:00 AM through Friday, Dec. 11, 2:00 PM (this includes the trainee pre-meeting on Wednesday from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
- Complete the pre-meeting and annual meeting evaluation forms
- Provide all required documentation within 2 weeks following the CAIRIBU meeting; this includes completed W9 forms and any and all forms required by nonresidents and international trainees
Trainees who fail to meet all requirements will not be eligible to receive travel award funds.

Notification of decision: October 23, 2026.
