Jessie Ge, MD was recently named the newest KURe Scholar at Stanford University. Dr. Ge completed medical school at Washington University in St. Louis and her urology residency at Stanford University.
The Multidisciplinary K12 Urology Research at Stanford (KUReS) Career Development Program aims to train the next generation of highly qualified physician scientists and scientists to emerge as investigators capable of obtaining independent funding, leading their area of research in benign urology, and ultimately reducing the burden of disease. The program is co-directed by Drs. Joseph Liao and James Brooks, esteemed leaders in the CAIRIBU community.
There is a tremendous need to enlarge the pipeline for physician scientists engaged in benign urology research. The KUReS Program leverages the strong momentum at Stanford for benign urology research and training by providing a continuum of training opportunities from fellowship to junior faculty.
Dr. Ge’s project, titled Chitosan-Induced Exfoliation and Regeneration as a Tunable Model for Urothelial Repair, aims to systematically characterize the formulation-specific effects of chitosan on the urothelium and assess its dual utility as both a model system for studying bladder injury and repair, and as a therapeutic to enhance regeneration. Ultimately, chitosan may serve as a novel strategy to promote urothelial healing and interrupt cycles of chronic injury in benign urologic disease.
Congratulations to Dr. Ge!
