Lab manager position at Columbia University

Looking for a person to fill lab manager position at the laboratory of Dr. Cathy Mendelsohn at Columbia University.

  • Research and technical work:
    • Perform experiments using mouse models and maintaining a small mouse colony, animal handling, and imaging procedures.
    • Conduct tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF).
    • Execute molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, and molecular cloning.
    • Perform imaging and microscopy work and provide training to other lab members on the use of equipment.
  • Personnel and compliance:
    • Assist in training new lab members on procedures and safety protocols.
    • Support regulatory compliance, including maintaining and implementing animal use protocols (IACUC) and lab safety procedures.
    • Maintain documentation for all lab activities and ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Collaboration and communication:
    • Work with research staff, principal investigators, and core facilities to support ongoing research projects.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external partners and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, such as biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience. Candidates with experience in molecular biology, mouse models, and analysis of tissue highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Experience with mouse handling and colony management.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with general lab skills.
