Urology Scientific Mentoring and Research Training (USMART) Program
The USMART program pairs early-career urologists and researchers with leading urologic clinician-investigators and scientists to engage in a structured, longitudinal mentoring experience customized by sub-specialty career interest and research expertise. This one year program is open to early career investigators who hold an MD (or equivalent) and/or PhD (or equivalent). MD (or equivalent) degree applicants must be within eight (8) years of completing ACGME (or equivalent) residency training. PhD (or equivalent) degree applicants must be within ten (10) years of completing terminal degree. For applicants holding dual MD and PhD degrees, the eligibility criteria most applicable to the applicant is permissible for consideration. Applicants need not be AUA members at the time of application but must become AUA members if awarded.
Applicants must:
- be affiliated with an institution located within the within the boundaries of the AUA Sections,
- be able to commit 1-2 hours per month for one year (via phone, video conference, or in-person interactions) to participate in the program,
- have a strong, demonstrable commitment to a future career as a urology physician, physician-scientist, or researcher.
Application deadline is Dec 15, 2025. Applicants will be notified of the selection decisions by Friday, February 13, 2026.
Please note: Participation in the USMART program does not include financial compensation of any kind. Participation in virtual and/or in-person USMART Academy events is at the individual’s expense.
