David Chu, MD, MSCE, awarded $10M from PCORI

David Chu, MD, MSCE, Associate Professor, Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, co-investigator with Gregory Tasian, MD, MSc, for the CAIRIBU P20 Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was awarded $10M from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to study strategies for improving bowel continence in people with spina bifida. Maryellen Kelly, DNP, CPNP, MHSc, Assistant Professor, Duke University and CAIRIBU K12 Alumnus from the Multidisciplinary K12 Urologic Research Career Development Program at Duke University (PI, Cindy Amundsen, MD) will serve as Associate Director. Their project is titled “Comparing Antegrade Versus Retrograde Enemas To Improve Bowel Continence Across the Lifespan in People With Spina Bifida”.

PCORI funds patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research that helps people make informed healthcare decisions and improves healthcare delivery and outcomes by producing evidence from research guided by patients, their caregivers and the broader health and healthcare community.

Now, more than ever, it is essential to diversify funding profiles. Organizations like PCORI are a great place to search for alternative funding.

Congrats to Drs. Chu and Kelly for this accomplishment.
