Looking for a person to fill lab manager position at the laboratory of Dr. Cathy Mendelsohn at Columbia University.
- Research and technical work:
- Perform experiments using mouse models and maintaining a small mouse colony, animal handling, and imaging procedures.
- Conduct tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF).
- Execute molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, and molecular cloning.
- Perform imaging and microscopy work and provide training to other lab members on the use of equipment.
- Personnel and compliance:
- Assist in training new lab members on procedures and safety protocols.
- Support regulatory compliance, including maintaining and implementing animal use protocols (IACUC) and lab safety procedures.
- Maintain documentation for all lab activities and ensure accurate record keeping.
- Collaboration and communication:
- Work with research staff, principal investigators, and core facilities to support ongoing research projects.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external partners and vendors.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, such as biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience. Candidates with experience in molecular biology, mouse models, and analysis of tissue highly preferred.
- Skills:
- Experience with mouse handling and colony management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with general lab skills.
