The Miller Institute for Basic Research in Science at UC Berkeley offers Miller Research Fellowships in the basic sciences to encourage exceptional young scientists to conduct research within an academic department on the Berkeley campus.

Eligibility:

• Must have received PhD between January 1, 2025 and August 31, 2027
• Cannot have had more than two years of postdoctoral experience from other institutions at the time of proposed fellowship start date
• Cannot have been employed as an assistant professor, associate professor or professor
• Cannot hold a paid or unpaid position on the Berkeley campus at the time of nomination or throughout the competition and award cycle, which can run through the end of February
• Non-US citizens must show eligibility for obtaining J-1 Scholar visa status

Fellowships are for 3 years and provide an annual stipend of $95,000 with 3% annual increases. Fellows also receive a research fund of $10,000 per annum to be used in support of research during the Miller Fellowship, for a total initial package of $105,000.

Interested scientists must be nominated to apply. Nominations are accepted from department chairs, faculty advisors, professors or research scientists who can attest to the scientific potential of the Miller Fellow candidate. Nominations are accepted from individuals at institutions around the world.
