University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Students Training in Research (STIR) Program

The Student Training in Research (STIR) Program is designed to give pre-medical students a deeper insight into the field of medicine and research. Participants will learn how to pursue a specific research problem under the supervision of a Miller School of Medicine faculty member and will present their research findings at a Research Symposium at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Participants will (1) gain research experience, (2) learn to structure, design, and present a research poster, (3) gain professional and career development, and (4) network with faculty, residents, and medical students. There is no cost for accepted students to attend.

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • U.S. citizen or eligible residency or citizenship status to qualify for federal financial aid.
  • College junior, senior, master’s student, or recent college graduate (within the last two years).
  • Completed at least two years of undergraduate science or premed coursework.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.2.
  • Research experience is NOT required*
